In Rutherford County, NC deed book 47, dated Jan. 1852 he and his sister conveyed land to their uncle Barzilla Ledbetter. The instrument reads in part, "..Elizabeth Delincy Harriss and Overton Ledbetter Searcy of the one part, of the county of Gilmer and State of Georgia, and Barzilla Ledbetter of the county of Rutherford and State of North Carolina of the other part..". In 1856 O.L. Searcy married Nancy Watkins in Gilmer County, GA., daughter of Abner Watkins. In 1881 O.L. Searcy gave the land for the formation of Rock Creek Baptist Church in Cherry Log, GA., according to Gilmer County, GA. Deed Book R. During the Civil War he was a soldier in the 11th GA. Infantry and saw action at Gettysburg. While he was away at war local Yankees ransacked his home in Cherry Log, GA. "Tobe" had reddish hair and usually had a beard. He also had a funny sounding laugh. One of his recreational activities as an elder man was to let a bull chase him around the pasture. He died in 1919 at an advanced age and was buried in Rock Creek Bap. Cemetery. His death was of natural causes. The bullets of Gettysburg and the bull never got him. The children of Overton Ledbetter Searcy and wife Nancy Watkins were, 1) John C. Searcy, married Margaret Callie Hill. 2) William Henry "Bud" Searcy, married Harriet Catherine "Kate" Whitaker. 3) Barzilla L. Searcy, 4) Leander Searcy. 5) Chuflin Searcy. 6) Margaret C. Searcy-1299 and Searcy-155 appear to represent the same person because: I think these are the two you want to merge, right?
