Biography

Theodore John Aloysius Siedenstricker (known as Theodore) was born Thursday, February 14, 1867 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. His death certificate and family tree listings all indicate a birth year of 1866. Given that his older brother Charles was born on Monday, January 8, 1966 Theodore's birth year can't be 1866. Every U.S. Census from 1870 to 1940 provides an age for Theodore that makes 1867 the correct year of his birth. He was the third child born to Charles J. Seidenstricker, Sr. (Saturday, August 5, 1843 - Saturday, November 17, 1917) and Philomena Schauer (1847 - Tuesday, June 25, 1895). He married Gertrude Manning in 1896 in Pittsburgh. They had four daughters, one of whom only survived two days and died on Saturday, October 17, 1896. In 1905 he was a salesman for the H. J. Heinz Co. In the 1910 U.S. Census he is listed as a bartender in a hotel, in the 1920 U.S. Census it states he was a county detective, in the 1930 U.S. Census he is a clerk at the court house, and in the 1940 U.S. Census he is identified as an assistant custodian at the court house. He died at the age of eighty in Bellevue, Allegheny County, on Wednesday, February 19, 1947. He died of uremia caused by chronic prostatic hypertrophy. Theodore had been hospitalized for eighteen days at Suburban Hospital. His occupation is listed on his death certificate as retired police detective. He is buried at Northside Catholic Cemetery.
