DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
The Southern Pioneers Project has made many contributions to the Sewell/Seawell lines of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Over 800, all with sources and many images. There is only one profile that could be the father of this Mary and that is Thomas Seawell. His line contains the same marriages as this one, and they are Ransone, Hicks, Wynn(e), Shackelford and many more. The profile of Thomas Seawell has many duplicates but this one which the Southern Pioneers took over as it was an orphan is the only one to contain sources and images, plus the line is sourced. Thanks for your patience.
Your probably wondering if I gave up. No my method is to check family relationships on these very hard to do Virginia Colonist's. Ive had some nice emails from those following this line.
Its been asked where did the original source for Richard Dudley & Mary Sewell come from! Its not Sewell its Seawell and its from Tylers Quarterly Magazine and reprinted in Genealogies of Virginia Families: From Tyler's Quarterly, Volume 1.
The clues I have found are through Elizabeth Ransone, It goes through the Ransone's Hick's and back into the Seawell Line at Col Benjamin Seawell. the Colonel's line goes to Thomas Sewell and his brother Henry. They should be Seawell as their family is constantly spelt Seawell.
We need to clean up the biographies to reflect the documents and be less confusing, especially Richards.
