Fred Sexton was enumerated as son of the head of household at Main Street, Union, Union County, South Carolina for the June 7, United States Census, 1900. He was noted as at school, born September 1890 in South Carolina and single as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head J T Sexton, wife Mrs. J T Sexton, son W J Sexton, son C D Sexton, daughter Miss Nannie Sexton, son Ben Sexton, daughter Nina Sexton, daughter Louise Sexton, son Russell Sexton and servant Jim Young.[1]

"The commander in chief in the name of the President has awarded the distinguished service cross to the following named officer, for the acts of extraordinary heroism described after his name:
Second Lieutenant Fred H. Sexton, deceased, 113 Infantry. For extraordinary heroism in action near Bolleville Farm, France, October 17, 1918. During the thickest of the fight in attack on Bolleville Farm, Lieut. Sexton set out alone to locate enemy machine-gun positions. While on this mission he was killed. Next of kin, Mrs. J. T. Sexton, mother, 9 East Pine Street, Union, SC." from the Greenville News
He is buried in France.
