Richard Shakespeare was the seventh child of John Shakespeare, glover, of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, and his wife Mary Arden.[1][2]
He was baptised on 11 March 1573/4 at Holy Trinity, Stratford, and entered in the parish register as "Richard sonne to Mr John Shakspeer."[3][4]
Not much is known about him, except that he was summoned before an ecclesiastical court in Stratford on 1 July 1608 and fined one shilling. The nature of the charge against him is not recorded.[1]
He was buried at Holy Trinity, Stratford on 4 February 1612/3—a year and a day after the burial of his brother Gilbert.[5][6]
