Joel Glover was the son of John M Shannon and Jane Johnston. He was one of twelve children and was baptized in the Presbyterian Church, Keene, Coshocton, Ohio, on July 2, 1849.[1] On the 1850 Federal Census, taken on September 25, 1850 JG is listed at 1 year old.[2]
Joel, or JG, married Rose Arnold in 1879, at the home of her parents. They moved to rural Madison County, Montana, where Joel worked as a grocer.
In the 1890 Butte, Montana, City Directory, Joel is listed as a carman for the Lexington Mine residing at 705 N. Montana in Butte.
Joel and Rose lived in Beaverhead County, where JG served as Beaverhead County Treasurer in 1897-1898, and his picture was in the Beaverhead County Historical Society and Museum. His occupation was sheep farmer.
About 1909, Rose moved to Chicago to care for her ailing mother, Elizabeth Gill Arnold. Sons Harry and Charlie had already moved there.
In 1909, JG died in Denver County, Colorado while enroute from Montana to Chicago. He was travelling with his youngest son, Ralph Shannon. Ralph received $50 from his aunt's husband, Frank Crocker (of Crocker Bank fame), to continue the journey to Chicago.
