The Observer (Hartland, N.B.), Feb 1971: Dean H. Shaw, who was born at Middle Simonds on May 10, 1888, passed away on January 29th. He spent most of his life in Middle Simonds, and was an early promoter of seed potato raising and also in the growing of grain that was produced in, and was suitable for, the climate and markets of Carleton County. He also owned and operated a saw mill, located on his farm, for a number of years in partnership with P. Britton. The late Mr. Shaw was married twice. His first wife, Blanche E. Nevers, died in 1914; his second wife, Vera Giberson passed away November 20, 1970. Surviving are one sister, Tillie, who lives in New Jersey; four sons, Gerald, Somerville, Harold and Monte of Middle Simonds, Cecil, who is with the Canadian Air Force at Ruhr, Germany; two daughters, Nadine, wife of Malcolm Graham of Simonds, and Amy, wife of A. Tisdale of Gold River, B.C. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 31, and a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, Hartland. Mr. Shaw was always active in community affairs, was a lifetime member of the Conservative party, and was a devout Christian. Funeral services were held at the Advent (Christian) Church of Simonds, with interment at Middle Simonds Cemetery. Masonic services were held prior to the church services and K. of P. service was conducted at the graveside.
