Hough -T- In the following listings of vessels, boats were small open vessels propelled by oars or sails and included whaleboats, longboats, cutters, barges, flatboats, shallops, and similar vessels. They operated close to shore. Brigs and brigantines were two-masted vessels, most capable of transatlantic voyages. A brig could be rigged as a brigantine. Galleys were low, single-decked vessels propelled by oars or sails which were used for coastal and river defense. Schooners were small vessels of two or more masts rigged fore and aft, capable of carrying guns and fighting at sea. Sloops were small single-masted vessels rigged fore and aft. Pilot boats were light sloops required in harbors. Ships were ocean-going vessels of three or more masts, though large brigs or schooners were sometimes listed as ships. Ships used for prisons by the British and by the Americans were generally de-masted hulks. Prison ships are included as their records of prisoners are valuable. Note: {geni:about_me} Early in life Jonathan was a seaman and later became a preacher. His father was the pastor of the Tiverton Baptist Church in 1775.
Mary (Durfee) Sheldon was mentioned in the will of her father Samuel Durfee dated December 3, 1780, and recorded December 1, 1788, in the Tiverton, Newport County, RI, Wills Book 4, pages 442-445. Also mentioned were her children Prudence and Perry Sheldon. Two Volumes. 1902 and 1905. Volume 1, pages 132 and 241.

Sheldon-1559 and Sheldon-257 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Please review and merge. There will also be a merge for the father, Benjamin coming your way. Bit of trivia for you...I have his daughter in law, Patty Shipman Sheldon (Jonathon Jr) portrait hanging in my living room.  :) Cool, huh? The cemetery where they are buried is not far, if you want pic's...let me know.
