Biography

Sergeant Robert Sheldon served in the United States Civil War.

Robert Emmet Sheldon was born on June 1, 1845, at Tiffin, Seneca, Ohio, USA. His father was Thomas H. Sheldon, b. Providence, Rhode Island, and his mother was Martha Uncles, b. Columbus, Ohio.^[1]

Robert fought in the American Civil War in Company "H," 133rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.^[2][3]

Mary E. Butler and Robert E. Sheldon were married on February 24, 1869, in Franklin County, Ohio.^[4] She died January 16, 1897.

In 1870, Robt E, Sheldon, 25 b. Ohio, a clerk in a store, and Mary E. Sheldon, 21 b. Ohio, were living in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, with Mary's father, C P L Butler, 55 b. New York. ^[5]

In 1880, Robt. E. Sheldon, 35, a wholesale merchant in Dry goods, lived in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, with his wife Mary E., 30, and five children: Ralph, 9; Flora, 8; Butler, 6: Hattie, 4; and Mary, 2. Kate Cramer, 21, a servant, and Louise Muller, 16, a servant, lived with the family. All were born in Ohio.^[6]

Sarah F. Hanaford, 37, and Robert E. Sheldon, a merchant, were married on February 27, 1900, in Franklin County, Ohio. Robert was previously married. The ceremony was performed by Pastor S. S. Palmer. Both Robert and Sarah lived in Columbus. ^[7]

Robert died on January 21, 1917, at Columbus, Franklin, Ohio, USA. According to his Death Certificate, at the time of his death, his primary residence was 683 E. Broad St., Columbus. He was retired and married. The informant on the Death Certificate was Harriet Sheldon.^[1] He is buried at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin, Ohio: Plot: Section 43, lot 35 , grave 3, next to his two wives.^[8]
