Research Notes

Per Geoffrey Sherwood in an email to Bill Longman, 07-04-98: "Daniel Sherwood was a miller and carpenter. In 1712 he moved inland from Fairfield to become Ridgefield's 29th and last original proprietor, and first miller. In 1716 he built a mill at Mamanasco Lake, Ridgefield (there is a "Mill Covenant", dated 30 Jan 1716 or 17, between Daniel and the proprietors of Ridgefield; after he died, his son, Daniel, Jr., took over responsibility for the mill, and the covenant remained in effect until 1779). He is listed as a taxable resident of Ridgefield in 1746, as was his son Daniel, Jr. Daniel, Sr's home lot was just N of Benjamin Burt's (for those of you with access to early plat maps). Daniel's will was dated 19 Aug 1749, and was offered for probate on 2 Oct 1749, at Danbury, CT. (Danbury Probate Records, Vol. 1, p. 34)."
