William was baptised in Kirk German on 07 Oct 1849. He was the son of Thomas Shimmin, a mariner and his wife Ann Kelly. The family were living in Peel.[1]
In the 1871 Census he is living with his parents and 2 younger siblings in Peel. He is a mariner, like his father and younger brother.[2]
William married Eleanor Shimmin at Kirk German on 23 Dec 1875. At the time he was a mariner living in Peel. He was the son of Thomas Shimmin, a mariner.[3]
In the 1881 Census he is living in Peel with Eleanor and 2 children. He is a fisherman aged 31.[4]
His sister married a baker in 1880 and it appears he became a grocer and baker some time after this. By the 1901 Census he and Eleanor are living in Peel. He is now a baker and grocer.[5]
