John M Shipp represented the Barbour District on the Orange County Board of Supervisors for 18 years. First elected in 1877, he was subsequently re-elected a record seventeen consecutive times to one year terms. Because Board terms were changed to four years in 1903, his election record will almost certainly never be threatened. Shipp served as Chairman of the Board from 1887-1889 and again from 1894-1895.
