Biography

Birth

His death record (d. 16 Feb 1879) gives his age as 75 yrs, 11 mo, 28 days (image, not transcript). Unfortunately, that works out to born 16 Feb 1803, which would make him 76!:
16 Feb 1879 - 75 years = 16 Feb 1804
- 11 months = 16 Mar 1803
- 28 days = 16 Feb 1803, because Feb has 28 days (1803 was not a leap year).
I suspect some sort of calculation error on the death record and have therefore used just Feb 1803 and marked it as uncertain. Perhaps the actual birth date was 18 or 19 Feb, and the "28 days" was based on two or three days short of his birthday (30 or 31 day month).
1850 census gives est. birth year 1806 and birthplace New York. His death record also says New York. However, the 1870 census shows, born New Jersey, est. 1802-1803. Thus birthplace is also marked uncertain.

  • Source: S138 Tri-Counties Genealogy & History by Joyce M. Tice. Citation is confusing because it says, "The following is extracted from Clement F. Heverly, Pioneer and Patriot Families of Bradford County, 1770-1800, Vol. 1, Bradford Star Print, 1913." Then it lists records from 1830-1840. Under 1833: "September 25, in Wysox, by Justice Harry Morgan, Jonathan Shores and Miss Sarah Merithew."
