Biography
Jacob was born about 1739 in Germany. Indication is that he changed his name from Schwartz. [1]
The following deed was recorded in Botetourt County on November 6, 1801. [2][3]
The deed includes the names of Jacob's children: John, Jacob, David, George, Samuel, Catherine, Susanna and Eve.
- Whereas Jacob Short (6) late of Botetourt County and State of Virginia departed this life Intestate having five sons towit John (5), Jacob, David, George, and Samuel Short, and three daughters towit Catherine, Susanna, and Eve Short and the said Jacob Short in possession of a tract of two hundred and twenty one acres________ ______lying in the County of Botetourt and state of Virginia on Mudlick Creek a Branch of Roanoke River and is part of a tract of 740 acres which was granted to the said Jacob deceased by inclusive bounty _________ _____ the 6th day of November 1801 and said Samuel Short hath sold his undivided share in the said tract of 221 acres to Littleberg and Jones of the said County of Botetourt.
George and his brother granted power of attorney to their brother David in the matter of their father's estate on the 25th and 27th of August 1813. By this time they had migrated from Virginia to Mecklenburg County, Kentucky.
