We have proof of his parents in the deed records from Botetourt County of 1813, Virginia where he is named as a son of Jacob Short. The document shows that he had siblings David, Jacob, John, Catherine, Susannah and Eve. He granted his brother David power of attorney and he was living in Mecklenburg County, Kentucky at that time.[1]
There were two men named George Washington Short who resided and died in Washington County, Indiana and another named George W. Short that was born in Delaware and lived in Jefferson County.

This memorial lists his parents as John T Short and Eva Monical Short. The subject of this profile named George W. Short had a brother named John T. Short that is named in the deed records of Jacob Short. This memorial shows the following children: William Henry Short, Aaron Abraham Short, George Washington Short and John F Short. This would match the heirs of the man that made his will in 1874, died in 1876 and signed his will as George W. Short, Sen.
The following deed was recorded in Botetourt County on November 6, 1801 after his father Jacob had died.[1] The deed includes the names of Jacob's children including George.
Whereas Jacob Short (6) late of Botetourt County and State of Virginia departed this life Intestate having five sons towit John (5), Jacob, David, George, and Samuel Short, and three daughters towit Catherine, Susanna, and Eve Short and the said Jacob Short in possession of a tract of two hundred and twenty one acres________ ______lying in the County of Botetourt and state of Virginia on Mudlick Creek a Branch of Roanoke River and is part of a tract of 740 acres which was granted to the said Jacob deceased by inclusive bounty _________ _____ the 6th day of November 1801 and said Samuel Short hath sold his undivided share in the said tract of 221 acres to Littleberg and Jones of the said County of Botetourt.
George and his brother granted power of attorney to their brother David in the matter of their father's estate on the 25th and 27th of August 1813. By this time they had migrated from Virginia to Mecklenburg County, Kentucky.[10]

George married Catherine "Kitty" Monical on July 5, 1809 in Nicholas, Kentucky. Kitty's father is named as Christopher in the record.[11]

Death
George died sometime after he made his will on March 7, 1860 and when it was probated in 1862. His Find-A-Grave memorial gives his death date as January 28, 1865.[12]
