Biography

David Alexander Preston Shultz was born December 16, 1851, in Sevier County, Tennessee, a son of Pleasant Wear Shultz and Ann (Duggan) Shultz. David was named for his paternal uncles, David Shults and Alexander Preston Shultz. In 1882, David married Phoebe Jane Williams, a daughter of Reuben Alexander Williams and Mary Ann Lidsey. Children of David and Phoebe are:

  • Andrew Jackson Shults (1883–1962), married Augusta D. Hoffman
  • Rachel A Shults (1885–1917) married 1) Ackillis Sellers and 2) James Arthur Atchley
  • Roscoe Conklin Shults (1886–1978) married Sadie J. Tipton
  • Sherman Thomas Taylor Shults (1888–1975), married 1) Lillie Reneau, 2) Amer Eva Chasteen, 3) Eunice I Morgan, and 4) Pearl E. Warren
  • Virgie Lee Shults (1889–1972) married Charles Calvin Carlton
  • Dicey Magnolia Shults (1891–1989), married Clarence Benjamine Ackley
  • Burton Fillmore Shults (1893–1981) married 1) Lillie Fox and 2) Hattie (?nee)

David died September 11, 1925, at the age of 73 years, in Ashton, Fremont county, Idaho and is buried in the Shults Cemetery. According to his Find A Grave memorial, David was the first generation of his family to change his name from Shultz to Shults, when he moved from Tennessee to Idaho. There is a copy of his death certificate on his F.A.G. memorial, as well as a headstone with the inscription, "Asleep in Jesus David Shultz " [1]
