Biography

Amanda Ellender SIBLEY, born on 14 Apr 1835 in Washington Parish, Louisiana.

Amanda Ellender died in Nachitoches, Louisiana, on 23 Feb 1904; she was 68. She was buried after 23 Feb 1904 in New Hope Cemetery, Near Many, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

On 16 Nov 1848 when Amanda Ellender was 13, she married Elias Fletcher PRESLEY, son of Hosea PRESLEY, (died 1854) & Lovely WORD, (1802-1866), born on 19 Jan 1822 in Alabama.

Elias Fletcher died in Many, Sabine Parish, Louisiana, on 11 Sep 1891; he was 69 buried after 11 Sep 1891 in New Hope Cemetery, Near Many, Sabine Parish, Louisiana.

Elias F. Presley was the first Sabine Parish tax assessor and in 1844 became a deputy sheriff of the parish. In 1852 he was serving as secretary of the police jury and from 1862 to 1964 he was Sabine Parish's representative to the State Legislature. He was parish attorney in 1871 and in 1877 was the Parish Treasurer and also a member and secretary of the school board. In 1878-79 he was treasurer of the school board and in 1880-1881, the president. In 1878 he also established Sabine's first newspaper, The Sabine Southern, which continued publishing until 1891.[1]
