Biography

4-20-2017 by Charlene Cox Scott (Cox-17269) Keziah Simpson was born in 1767 and according to Simpson-Reed History, she went with her brother to Kentucky where she married William Buchanan (?sp) in 1773 who was killed by Indians soon after their marriage.

Keziah then married Major John Reed (Reid), born Apr 16 1748 and residing in Washington County, Virginia, in 1784 in Boonesborough, KY. According to Simpson History by Richard W. Simpson, John had known Keziah before her marriage to William Buchanan.

John and Keziah moved to Caswell County, North Carolina. Research through Luginbuel Funeral Home Genealogy shows children Joseph 1784 and William Buchanan Reed 1787 were born in Kentucky, while children Nathaniel 1794, John B 1796, Buchanon 1799, Thomas Jefferson 1801, Amelia 1803, Clarissa Harlow 1806 were all born in Caswell County, N.C. They also list a James Reed born in 1827 in Independence, Arkansas; however, John died in 1826, so this is possibly an error in data.

Keziah came with her daughter Clarissa and son-in-law Maurice Smith from Tennessee to Dallas County, Arkansas in 1844. They came in ox-drawn "Carry-All" wagons. Keziah died at Tulip in 1858 at the age of 92. The family Bible says she died Aug 9 1858, but her tombstone gives her death as June 26, 1858. Keziah is buried at Tulip Cemetery.

Obituary written in the Arkansas Gazette, dated September 11, 1858[1]

Keziah Simpson married William Buchanan possibly late February of 1783. She would have been 16 years old and William would have been 22 years old

William Buchanan possibly traveled with his sister and brother-in-law Col. John Floyd to the Daniel Boone's Settlement in Kentucky

At age 15 she travel to Kentucky possibly in 1782 with her brother Richard "Duke" Simpson III who was in his early 20's and Keziah possibly met William Buchanan at the Daniel Boone's Settlement in Kentucky

Simpson-802 and Simpson-13297 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth date and same death date

Apparently Keziah was just seven years of age at her first marriage. Thanks.

I believe she married William in late February of 1783. William died sometime in March of 1783 during an Indian attack

On John Floyd who married William's sister Jane

Later in the year in March (1783) he would write Preston informing him of his brother in law Billy Buchanan being killed by Indians. Also in the letter Floyd wrote that he dreamed that his fate might become the same.
