Biography

That the confederate soldier William Sizemore of Spartanburg was son of William Sizemore and his first wife Nancy is supported by his presence with these parents in the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Spartanburg.[1],[2] This is further supported by William's death certificate which identifies his father as William.[3]

Research of Joy (Wright) King concurs and notes that Nancy's maiden name is unknown.

He married about 1867 (based on the age of their oldest child) as her second husband[4] Elizabeth Thompson.

Her maiden name is provided on the death certificates of two of their children.

In 1870, William, Elizabeth and two-year-old Nancy were living in Campobello, Spartanburg, South Carolina.[5] Enumerated with them were her three Bazwell (later Bagwell) children.

In 1880, William, Elizabeth, her three Bagwell children (identified as step children of William) and their Sizemore children, Nancy, Aaron and Francis, were living in Beech Springs, Spartanburg, South Carolina.[4]

In 1900, William and Elizabeth ("Lizzie") were enumerated in Beech Springs again, with 18-year-old daughter Lizzie.[6]

In 1910, William and Elizabeth lived in Beech Springs; enumerated with them is a black hired man, William McCastle, 53.[7]

Elizabeth died in 1919.

When the 1920 census was recorded in January, William was living with his son Aron in Walnut Grove, Spartanburg, South Carolina.[8]

William was buried in Oak Grove, June 4 1920;[9] undertaker J.F. Floyd Spartanburg, SC.[3]

Children included:

  1. Nancy, b abt 1868.[10]
  2. William, b abt 1871
  3. Aaron Roland
  4. Francis
  5. Lizzie, b about 1882 per her age in 1900.

Of interest is the death certificate of one J.L. Sizemore whose age at death calculates back to an 1880 birth year. His parents are identified as Billie Sizemore and Mary Thompson.[11]

Sizemore-595 and Sizemore-523 appear to represent the same person because: Differences in vitals are provocative. And narrative of one describes children attached to the other. I think these are definitely meant to represent the same person.

Sizemore-41 and Sizemore-523 do not represent the same person because: I sent you an email about this. Not same people
It's impossible for this William M. Sizemore to be the son of George All Sizemore, who died six years before his birth. Records do seem to indicate he was a soldier in South Carolina during the Civil War. Were there any Sizemores living in SC who could have been his parents?
