Jeremiah was born in 1776 in South Carolina in Old 96 District. His parents were Robert Skelton and Mary Elizabeth Bobo.
War had come to the colonies in April of 1775 with the exchange of fire between the British and patriots at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts colony.
The war raged in the northern colonies.The war came to the southern colonies by July of 1776. The British attempted to seize Charles Town in South Carolina. The British also made an attempt at invasion in North Carolina and were defeated at Moore's Bridge in 1776.
Jeremiah's father was a soldier during the Revolutionary War fighting with the South Carolina Militia in Roebuck's Battalion. Jeremiah's grandfather, Lewis Bobo, was also a soldier during the Revolutionary War serving in the South Carolina Militia with Brandon.
After the war ended Jeremiah moved with his parents to the newly formed Pendleton District.
He was living with his parents in 1790 in the Pendleton District of South Carolina.
Jeremiah moved again with his parents to Elbert County, Georgia. Elbert had been created in 1790 from part of Wilkes County. While his family was in Elbert his mother died in about 1807.
DAR applications indicate that his first wife was named Elizabeth and that she died in 1836.
War came to America and to Georgia in 1812. Jeremiah joined the Georgia Militia. His brother Sampson was also in the Georgia Militia.
Jeremiah Bobo Skelton served in the War of 1812 as a Private in Capt. Wm . H.Underwood's 4th Regiment, Georgia Militia. - He also served in the Indian Wars 1815 - 1858 in Parish's Company, Lindsey's Georgia Mounted Volunteers - Cherokee War. - Jeremiah is listed on the Franklin Co. Poll Tax Rolls in 1820.
Jeremiah and Elizabeth had the following children:
By 1850 Jeremiah had moved his family to Benton County, Alabama.
He passed away in 1860.
