Alexander was the eldest of the two sons of Alexander Skene, 9th Skene of the Ilk, and his wife Agnes Forbes.[1]
His father died in about 1507, as there is in the Privy Seal record, dated 12 February 1507/08, a "letter to Sir Alexander Irving of Drum and Duncan Forbes of the ward of the lands of the late Alexander Skene of that Ilk, and of the marriage of Alexander Skene, his son and heir"[1]
Alexander wasn't invested as heir to his father until 17 July 1514,[1] which would indicate he was born about 1493.
He married before 20 May 1516, Elizabeth Black, the daughter of a burgess of Aberdeen. She brought a tract of land in Aberdeen as well as a considerable amount of money as her dowry (dott and tocher).[1]
He died in about 1517. His wife was pregnant at the time, and gave birth to his only child; his son and heir Alexander Skene, 11th Skene of that Ilk.[1]
