Mathias Smith was born on January 24, 1802[1] in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, United States.[2] His parents are said to be William Smith and Christina Barnhardt.[3] He and L. Daniel Josey signed a bond for the purpose of attaining a marriage license for Mathias and Peggy Josey.
It is presumed the couple married. They have been found in the 1840-1880 censuses and the names extracted include:
