Ame was born about 1734, the daughter of Benjamin Smith and Hannah. Hannah was a widow (her first husband was Captain John Lovewell, 1691-1725) when she married Ame's father. Some report that Hannah's maiden name was "Moody" but this has never been proven.
Ame married Samuel Barnett about 1751 in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Note that claims by others that Samuel actually married Amy Rogers, not Ame Smith, lack proof and credibility - see discussion remarks on the following profile Amy Rogers.
Samuel and Ame are believed to have had 11 children, the first 8 or 9 of which were born in Litchfield, New Hampshire, with the first 8 of those documented in the New Hampshire Vital Records[1]:
Esther b. abt 1769 (probably Litchfield); m. Stephen McConnell 4 Feb. 1790
Anne b. abt. 1772 (probably Newbury, Vermont), and
Joseph b. abt Jan 1776 (probably Newbury, Vermont).
Ame and Samuel moved to Pembroke, New Hampshire around 1764. This town was granted to men and their heirs who had fought under Captain John Lovewell as mentioned above.[2]
Ame passed away in 1776 and was buried in Oxbow Cemetery, Newbury, Vermont. Note that many had identified Samuel's wife as "Amy Rogers", not "Ame Smith" and the following reference is in the first category. Date inconsistencies (see notes on profile of Amy Rogers) point to the correctness of Ame Smith.[3]

Based on other names I see on this profile, I have changed her CurrentLastName to the one I expect she was using at the time of her death. I could be wrong, so please correct as necessary. This is so we can search for her by her LastNameAtBirth or her CurrentLastName and still find her. If she was married more than once, her other married names are in the OtherLastNames field and can also be searched. Ex: Abigail Amelia Betts formerly Smith aka Adams
