Aholeab (sometimes spelled Aholiab) was one of the pioneer settlers of Gouverneur. He and his son Benjamin came to Gouverneur in 1807, making their own path through the dense woods and sleeping under their wagon at night while watching for indians and wild animals. They settled in the area now known as Little Bow, where they proceeded to make their own bricks with which to build a brick house which was still standing almost 200 years later.
