Biography

Christiana Smith was born in Pennsylvania in about 1815.

She married John Meckley in Pennsylvania, sometime before 1836 when their first child Samuel was born.

In 1840, it is believed that the family were living in Gregg, Centre, Pennsylvania, where there is a census entry for John Mechtle, a wife and two children under 5. [1]

The 1850 census taken in Burnside, Clearfield, Pennsylvania showed the family. Head of the household was John age 37, and a mason, his wife Christiana was age 35, they had children Samuel age 14, Sarah age 12, Catherine age 10, George age 6, John age 5, James age 4, Rebecca age 1 [2]

In 1860 the family had relocated to Bell, Clearfield and comprised of John and Christianna, with children Samuel age 23, Catherine age 19, John age 16, James age 14, Rebecca age 11, William age 8, Henry age 5 and Lewis age 2 [3]

The family remained in Bell, Clearfield in 1870 and comrprised of John and Christiana, with children Rebecca age 21, William age 18, Henry 15 and Lewis 12 [4]. And ten years on John, Christiana and their youngest son Lewis were still living together in Bell, Clearfield County. (transcribed as Kechltey) [5]

It is unknown when Christiana died.
