Obituary from The Payson Chronicle (Payson, Utah) published 12 December 1990:

"Arthur Dewey Smith, 92, of Payson, Utah, died Monday, December 3, 1990 in an Orem care center, Orem, Utah.

He was born November 14, 1897, in Oxford, Wisconsin, a son of Theodore Parker and Ella May Frazer Smith. He married Alice Octavia Ahrens on December 22, 1926, at Mankato, Minnesota. She died August 16, 1977.

He was left on his own at age 13 and worked as an apprentice barber and later as a journeyman barber to put himself through high school and Stevens Point Normal Junior College. He later graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in education. He was school principal in Big Falls, Minnesota and at Lincoln High School in Esko, Minnesota. He later owned and operated a hatchery, grocery store and gasoline station in Esko. He went to work for the Soo Line Railroad in 1945 and retired in 1962. He served on the Co-op Board, School Board, and in the Community Club in Esko and was a Commissioner in Carlton County, Minnesota. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. He trained hunting dogs for 50 years and was well-known for this throughout the United States. He operated the Del Norte Kennel. He lived with his son in Payson for the past 11 years.

He is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters: Robert A. Smith, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Donald A. Smith, Santa Clara, California; James A. Smith, Payson, Utah; Richard R. Smith, Ketering, Ohio; Mrs. Glenn (Belva C.) Bartlette, Apple Valley, California; Mrs. Beulah M. Smith of Orting, Washington; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sam R. Smith, of Irving, Texas. Four brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 10, 1990, at the Payne Memorial Chapel in Carlton. Burial was in the Carlton Village Cemetery under the direction of Walker Mortuary, Payson."
