SWAN RIVER.—The Times of Oct. 5 says—"On Saturday the Warrior, a beautiful vessel of 600 tons, left St. Katherine's Dock and sailed for the new settlement on the Swan River, with passengers, stock, agricultural implements, &c. The Protector, another fine vessel, left the dock the day before for the same destination; and so great is the desire of change amongst the industrious part of the community, that not less than TWENTY vessels (!!) are preparing for the same destination; and amongst the emigrants are several agriculturists of considerable capital"[2].
Richard marries widow Louisa (Puckrin) in November 1845 in the City of Perth, Western Australia, Australia[3]. It doesn't appear as if the couple had any children from the union. He passes away on the 21 May 1881 in the City of Perth, Western Australia. Australia. He was around 74 years old at the time and the cause of his death will be on her Certificate[4]. His burial takes place on the 22 May 1881 at the East Perth Cemetery, Bronte Street, East Perth, City of Perth, Western Australia, Australia. He is buried with his wife Louisa (Bartram) and the location of their grave is in the Church of England area, grave number 599[5]. The inscription on his gravestone reads: "In Memory of RICHARD SMITH Who Died 21st May 1881, Aged 74 Years. On This Side and On That Men See Their Friends Drop Off Like Leaves in Autumn. Also LOUISA The Below Wife of the Above Who Died 25th December 1889, Aged 83 Years. Alone At Her Silent Bed I Stood With My Heart All Crushed and Sore, While Through Gloom Those Sweet Words Stole Not Lost But Gone Before.
