Biography

Captain Elisha Sanford Smith was born 19 Oct 1785 in Rochester, Monroe County, New York USA.

He was enumerated in Alexander, Genesee County, New York in both the 1850 and 1860 US Census records.

Elisha S. Smith of Alexander "aged 80" made his will 18 January 1866. He named and made bequeathments to his daughters Ursula Smith, Anlivesta E. Wilson, Melanie B. Miller (and her husband Henry B. Miller), and Mary M. Meredith, and sons Archelaus G. Smith, Squire B. Smith, and Gilbert Smith. Notably a split part of his Bethany property between his children.[1]

Elisha died 11 July 1866, aged 80 years and 8 months, and is buried at West Bethany Cemetery.[4][3]

On 30 March 1867 His children and grandchildren quitclaim to Archelaus G. Smith their part of the split property.[2]
