Biography

Susanna Smith was born about 1696.

Marriage

On 1 December 1715, Susanna, the daughter of Nathan Smith and Elizabeth Coale, married [1] John Magruder, the son of Samuel Magruder and Sarah Beall. They resided on 250 acres of land that was named "Dunblane" which was located in Marlboro, Prince George's County, Maryland. As new towns/cities were formed, the land location changed to Forestville. John was a vestryman at St. Barnabas Episcopal-Leeland, Queen Anne Parish where his family attended church. On 11 June 1726, he was named Justice of the Peace. He also was a member of the House of Burgesses.

Death and Burial

Susanna Magruder passed away sometime after 23 August 1753 which is when she was mentioned in "The second and final executor's account" of her husband's estate. [2]

It is believed that John Magruder was buried in the Cemetery at his plantation, "Dunblane" [3] and that Susanna is buried nearby. [4]

Memorial Tablet

Magruder descendant, Caleb Clarke Magruder (1870-1946) III, presented a tablet to the St. Barnabas-Leeland Episcopal Church in honor of John and Susanna Magruder:
