Biography

Ruby was born May 8, 1907 in Georgia. She was the daughter of Jacob Smith and Eliza Crawford.

On the 1910 Census, she was listed as a two year old, white female living in Waco, Haralson County, Georgia with her parents. Also in the household were her siblings and half-siblings: James T. Smith, Jacob W. Smith, Mary Smith, Jesse Smith, Lillie Smith, Jessie Brookshire, Milton Brookshire, and Lydia Brookshire. She and her mother were born in Georgia, and her father was born in Alabama.[1]

On the 1930 Census, she was listed as a 22 year old, married, white female living in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia with her husband, Ivy, and daughter, Mildred. According to this census, she was 16 years old at the time of her first marriage.[2] Ruby and her mother were born in Georgia, and her father was born in Alabama.[3]

On the 1940 Census, she was listed as a 32 year old, married, white female living in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia with her husband, Ivy Davis. Also living in the household were three daughters: Mildred Davis, Willie Mae (Billie) Davis, and Ann Davis. Ruby's birthplace was listed as Georgia, and the highest grade completed in school was the 6th Grade. She was working as a seamstress in a suit factory.[4]

She passed away August 29, 1996 in Haralson County, Georgia.
