His second wife Elizabeth's LNAB cannot be Hickock/Hickox, as she married to a different Samuel Smith known as "Samuel Smith of Milford".[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Samuel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Samuel:

The book "The Proprietors of Ridgefield Connecticut", written by Glenna M. Walsh, published in 1976 by The Audatowa Press of Ridgefield, CT, and available for sale at the Ridgefield Historical Society, includes the following information:

1. Two original proprietors named Samuel Smith. One of from Norwalk and one from Milford. 2. Milford Samuel Smith drew Lot #8. 3. Norwalk Samuel Smith drew Lot #23. 4. Milford Samuel Smith was married to Elizabeth, maiden name unknown. 5. Norwalk Samuel Smith was married to 1. Sarah Whitney; 2. Elizabeth Hickok Benedict. Note: David Lines Jacobus "The American Genealogist" Volume 25, various pages, is the primary source for birth/marriage/death info about both Samuel Smiths. There are some old genealogies out there with incorrect spouses for the two Samuel Smiths, and I'm sure some of it is included on WikiTree. Hopefully the one-name Smith DNA study will help sort more of this out.

Elizabeth HICKCOCK did not marry this Samuel SMITH of Norwalk. There was another Samuel SMITH "of Milford" whose wife was Elizabeth HICKOCK who were buried together in the same cemetery. They do not belong here. Be careful of conflating two Samuel or even three Samuels - I discovered there is another Samuel Smith and Sarah Wainright in the same time frame. That couple needs to be checked out and verified.
