Biography

Came from a Mennonite family, but was married by a Lutheran pastor by Bans (no witnesses). On 24 March 1848, he received 119 acres from the east end of Lot 6 of the James Wilson Tract. A one-storey round log house was erected along with a nearby bake oven and smoke house. A bank barn was also eventually constructed. Most of this land still had original forest and had to be cleared over time. In 1857, a new two-storey white brick house was erected with a frame kitchen attached to the front. The original log house was then used as a wash house

Because there were three Moses Snyders in the area at the time, he was called Black Mose to distinguish him from Red Mose and Yellow Mose. He died unexpectedly of typhoid fever without a will and is buried at the Bloomingdale Mennonite Cemetery. The farm went to his son Amos.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Moses by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Moses:

Snyder-738 and Snyder-1386 appear to represent the same person because: they have the same wife, and daughter "Mary" on your profile matches daughter in my source (but not yet on my profile). Other dates for two profiles match.

A merge of Elizabeth Wismer profiles will have to be made as well.
