Biography

William (Somerville) Somerville Master of Somerville is a member of Clan Somerville.

William was the son of John Somerville and Helen Hepburn.[1][2]

He married firstly, 13 Jun 1476, Marjorie Montgomerie, sister of Hugh, 1st Earl of Eglinton.[3][4]

He married secondly, aft. 12 Oct 1478, Janet Douglass.[2] They had issue:

  1. John, b. abt. 1482-4, 3rd Lord[2][5]
  2. Hugh, b. 1484-6, 4th Lord[2][5]
  3. Mary, m. James Lockhart, of Lee

William died between 18 May and Nov 1491 and was buried at Carnwath.[2]

Research Notes

  • The sons, John and Hugh, are said by some to be the sons of William's second wife but James Somerville says they were sons by Marjorie.[6]
