Research Notes
7 of his children are duplicated. Birth years are way off. If Joseph was born in 1735, his first child could be born 17-20 years later, or 1750.
Joseph is discussed in THE SOUTH FAMILY by Christine Gee, 1963 - page 29 - available on Google books.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
I am removing my self from this profile and this debate because I'm not related, haven't fully researched and just held on hoping for a merge. You all decide!!
South-310 and South-43 appear to represent the same person because: Birthdates differ, but there are no sources to support either one. Merge of daughter's two profiles cannot go through until this one is cleared up. I just adopted -43 and will attempt to add research. If PM of -310 has any additional info, perhaps we can get this merge completed. Thank you.
Does anyone have any thoughts about the possible identity of Rachel South born about 1794 in PA, married to Ezekiel Kelley? https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36726112. The Kelleys were in Huntington County PA. I thought that Joseph might be her grandfather?
