William H. Sowell

Special to The State. McBee. Feb. 10.--William H. Sowell, one of McBee's oldest and most beloved citizens, died here at his home Wednesday night at 8 o'clock. Mr. Sowell was a Confederate veteran and was 81 years old. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Methodist church. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Ida Hilton of Andrews, Mrs. Dan McDonald of Kershaw, Mrs. William Hough of Camden, Mrs. G. T. Horton and Ed Sowell of this place. Rankin Sowell of Hartsville and Henry Sowell of Birmingham, Ala., besides a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although Mr. Sowell was in very feeble health during the last few years of his life, thus being deprived of mingling with his fellow men as he would have liked, his interest in their welfare and in the progress of the community never abated. He loved his home and was content to perform the little tasks about it when his strength would permit, his garden and flowers were a source of special joy to him.
