Biography
George Spall was born in Debenham, Suffolk, England.
George was born about 1813 in either Debenham or Mickfield (both places are given in various census entries).[1][2] See "Research Notes" for further discussion.
He was baptised in St Mary Magdalene Debenham on 15 May 1815, the son of Charles Spall and Harriot née Goodram.[3]
He married Rebecca Thaine in St Mary Framsden on 21 September 1835.[4]
George and Rebecca had twelve children:
- Mary Spall (circa 1836).[5]
- Susan Spall (born 1838).[6]
- Elizabeth Spall (born 1842).[7]
- George Spall (born 1844, died before 1846).[8]
- George Spall (born 1846).[9]
- Eliza/Elija Spall (born 1847).[10]
- John Spall (born 1849).[11]
- Hannah Spall (twin, born 1851).[12]
- Harriet Spall (twin, born 1851)[13]
- Hannah Spall (born 1852).[14]
- Harriet Spall (born 1854).[15]
- Rebecca Spall (born 1855).[16] (Baptised as Sarah Spall.)

In the 1851 census George (age 37) was the head of household in Debenham, Suffolk, England.[1]
Rebecca's death (age 42) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1857 in the Bosmere and Claydon district.[17]
George then married Ann Bendall née Amass in St Margaret Ipswich on 23 July 1858.[18]
The couple had two children:
- Walter Amass Bendall Spall (born 1859).[19]
- Albert Amass Bendall Spall (born 1861).[20]
In the 1861 census George (age 46) was the head of household in Debenham, Suffolk, England.[21]
Ann was buried in St Mary Magdalene Churchyard Debenham on 29 January 1864, age 48.[22]
In the 1871 census George (age 60) was the boarder of James Buckinham in Debenham, Suffolk, England.[23]
George died at the Workhouse in Barham on 23 February 1880, age 66.[24]

George's Birth
As noted above, George was born either in Debenham (1851, 1861 censuses) or Mickfield (1871 census). His estimated year of birth also varied from 1811 to 1815. Given that Charles and Harriet seemed to be having children every two years, I have placed Charles birth in between the births of Rachel (1811) and Harriot (1815), i.e. circa 1813.
