Biography

Son of William and Rebecca Elizaberth Mitchell. Married Elizabeth Shadowen, Caldwell Co., KY on 2 March 1848. J.F. Shaddoin (Shadowen),Elizabeth's brother signed the Bond for marriage. J.F. signed because he and Elizabeth's father had died just months before.

Migrated to Johnson Co., TX about 1871 from Crittendon Co., KY, by train. Father of 12 children, 9 boys & 3 daughters. All of their children migrated with them, except for Jules M. Sparkman born 10 Mar 1849 died 1 Dec 1865, Caldwell Co., KY , died in his Civil War Camp, from a measles out break in camp. Giles is buried in Cobb Hill Cemetery, Lyon Co., KY. H.M. Sparkman's Tomb stone inscription: No Pains, no grief, no anxious fear, can reach our loved one, sleeping here. His monument is about 4 feet tall and appears to be White Georgian Marble. Hart Cemetery is located near Rio Vista, Johnson Co., TX. Next to Hugh is his wife Elizabeth, a daughter Almer.
