Richard's brother, John, married Theodosia's sister, Elizabeth. Will of Richard Speak; probated May 30, 1749 To son Thomas Speake, 100 acres that I bought of my bro. John, being pt. of "McKeys Park" and pt. of "Allonsons Foley"; also the plantation whereon William Golden now liveth, being pt. of a tract called "The Gift". To son Thos. gun Bell, bed, half my cattle up the river saving the big steare, Negro man named Joseph To son John Speake, 3 tracts, "Little Cremore", "Hard Shift" and "Allinsons Secret". also ... Charles County, Maryland Liber L#2, Page94. At the request of Joshua Ratliff of CC, planter, the following lease was recorded this Jul 11, 1723. Nov 20, 1723 from R Speake of CC, planter, to Joshua Rattcliff of CC, planter, for and in consideration of the yearly rent of 540 lbs of tobacco, the lease of a certain parcel of land in CC, part of a tract of land called the Reserve, bounded by the Reedy Branch, "including his now dwelling plantation". To have and to hold, sd parcel of land with liberty of cutting timber for the use of sd plantation, not making waste, for the term of 15 years. The yearly rent is 540 lbs of tobacco, to be paid on Jan 10, to commence from today. Ratliff agrees to plant & leave planted 100 good growing apple trees.
