Biography

Elendor Spearman was born 8th September,1846 in Pickens County, South Carolina. Ellender is the daughter of James Spearman and Elender Roper.

Elendor, age 5, appears in the 1850 Federal census in Pickens County, South Carolina in the household of her father, James Spearman.[1] Elendor, age 16, appears in the 1860 Federal census in Shelby County, Alabama in the household of her father, James Spearman.[2] Elendor married John Franklin Crane on the 7th July 1861 in Shelby County, Alabama.[3]

Elendor appears in the 1870 Federal census in Shelby County, Alabama in the household of her husband John Crane. John's household appears as follows: John age 29; Elender age 24; Mary C. age 8; John W. age 5; and Jas B. age 3.[4]

Elendor appears in the 1880 Federal census in Shelby County, Alabama in the household of her husband John Crane. John's household appears as follows: John age 39; Ellenor age 37; William age 15; James B. age 12; Mahala age 10; Martha J. age 8; and Lucinda C. age 4.[5]

Elendor appears as head of household in the 1900 Federal census in Shelby County, Alabama. Elendor's household appears as follows: Elendor age 54, listed as mother of 9 children with 8 children living; daughter Sarena E. age 20; daughter Sarah M. age 17; and Ida Crane age 18 listed as being a neice.[6]

Elendor began receiving a widows pension from the state of Alabama in 1907 based on the Civil War service of her husband John F. Crane.[7]

Elendor died on the 18th April, 1920. Elendor is buried in the Old Quinn Burying Ground, Shelby County, Alabama.[8]
