Hi Susie,

The team I would love to work with is the England Project Profile Improvement because I have learned so much since just about finishing up with the PIP Voyage. Before being a part of the PIP Project I was a little nervous about what part of The England Project to be a part of, and now I am comfortable with any of them. It sure does make a huge difference when you know exactly what to do on WikiTree Profiles, instead of just hoping you are doing something right when putting together a profile.

Not to go off track but, the reason why I really enjoy The England Project is that most of my Ancestors were originally from England, which my five different DNA tests have shown, and my ancestral tree is pretty much spot on (I hope). I have many family members that live throughout the UK, and it has been so amazingly awesome to get to know them personally.

Keith - I noticed some time ago on FTDNA that you and I are a "0 distance" match for mitochondrial DNA. (In fact, your name is the first one listed in my "match" list). I never followed up on it because your earliest known ancestor in your female line (Susannah Cady) is not related to me (I tried wikitree's "relationship finder" and came up empty, and your maternal line stops with her mother. But on a lark, today, I tried the relationship finder to see whether I am connected to YOU. And, what a surprise!, I discovered that although you and I are not closely related, we have a whopping 237 common ancestors! I was especially intrigued to see that we share Thomasine Frost and Edmund Rice (Thomasine is your 10th GGrandmother; my 11th). So this is especially exciting to me because I can trace my maternal lineage directly to Thomasine Frost with "fairly good" confidence except for one "iffy" generation, around generation #8. Unfortunately, the lineages that wikitree "pops up" first for each of us to Thomasine Frost are not straight maternal lines, but I know that there is one for me (again with the uncertainty in the middle). Is there one for you too? If so this would be pretty firm genetic evidence that we both do indeed descend from Thomasine Frost and Edmund Rice (as well as their ancestors, including Thomasine's grandmother, Joanna Strutt), and it would help me to be less uncertain about that "iffy" generation in my maternal line to Thomasine. I hope we can confirm that!!

Oh phooey, I just explored more, and it doesn't look like any of the four connections for you to Thomasine Frost are on a direct maternal line. But given that we share mtDNA, there must be a shared ancient grandmother out there somewhere!

Hi Keith,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

To answer your question if New Netherland Settlers Project and the Dutch Roots Project are the same.. no these are two different projects, but we all work together a lot and you of course are very welcome to join us as well :)

Here's how you can join the Dutch Roots Project The Google Groups are connected to the Project accounts and only a tool for Projects (it's the project account inbox) they make it easier to keep track of and manage profiles with all project members together :)
