Hi John,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Lizzie, Amy, Joan

England Project Leaders

Hi Lizzie,

All fine here, although missing my work (sports coaching).

Currently adding some of my more distant Spicer relatives to the tree, from the very well off part of the family! And also clearing the Buckinghamshire profiles that come up on the weekly Sourcerers report. Although I think the ones left are beyond me, there is either nothing to be found online, or they are a very complicated family like the Rickards where people have lots of non-online sources that I don't have. I've had some good conversations with one of the owners and helped them a little bit, but I cannot help them any further.

Also still trying to get back beyond the early 1600's with my main family line. Some useful new information from the Court Rolls that I had translated, but not the 'missing link'. Really running out of options now.

As for Discord and Google, I don't touch Google at all (I will not sign up with them). So I cannot access that, although I scan the summary each day. Taht works well for me.

And I haven't got round to looking at Discord, as I have generally found I have enough going on (although not working currently I am doing other things and the risk is if I get more involved I will have to drop things once work restarts, and I am not looking to do that).

Wikitree's independence from the commercial companies are important to me, but most important is the collaborative side of Wikitree and trying to create a single tree with some strong standards. So thanks for all the work you do on the Project.

Regards John

Hello, my Spicer seemed to have originated from around Stevenage in Hertfordshire. There are quite a few families there now, one branch decided to move to Hampshire, Petersfield, in the 1860s, George and Louisa had four children by then, they had another 6 including my Great Grandfather another George, he joined the army in 1888, after fibbing about his age, he was in the 18th Hussars, transfered to the reserves in 1898, but in 1900 was called to go out to South Africa, where he finished his time in 1901, he had met and married my Great Grandmother by then, my Grandfather was born in 1902, the rest is history.

John, thanks for updating the profile of Rosetta Jane Lee. I'm afraid I don't use Wikitree very much. I am only a beginner really although I have been researching for a few years. My main work is all on Findmypast. I'm not very good at posting sources etc. Although I do like to triple check my information. I am certain about her death because I ordered her death certificate. She is my great grandmother. Once again thank you.

Hi John,

The England Project Leaders check-in with the members every six months to see how people are getting on. How are you doing? I notice you have yet to choose which profile improvements team(s) you’d like to be on. Profile Improvements itself is not a team, but rather the umbrella for a number of different teams. One requirement for membership in the project is that you contribute to a team at least once every six months. Let me know which team(s) you'd like to be on and we can go from there.

Please respond to me via e-mail.

Many thanks,

Susie, England Project Leader :-)

Thank you John for pointing out the error with Jone Sapcotes. It has now been corrected. Thank you too, for the link to the Visitations of Devon. I feel it may be a great help with the omeroy research.
Hi John,

We sent you a message about a week ago about the England Project but have not yet heard back from you. If we don't hear from you by this time next week we'll assume you no longer wish to be in the project.

Many thanks,

Hi John,

On behalf of the England Project Leaders we're carrying out a check-in to see how all the members are doing and taking the opportunity to thank you for all your hard work over the past six months. Hi John,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Welcome John

I am pleased to confirm you as a full member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family as your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to help answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Happy tree climbing
