Pieter Pietersen Staats (Peter Janszen2, Jan Pieterszen1)
Pieter, recorded as the child of Pieter Janszen and Annetie Jans, was baptized on 8 July 1663 in Brooklyn Dutch Church, Kings NY, Witnesses were Dirck Stillewil and Anneken Booms.[1]
He died before 8 Aug 1748 in Bensalem, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and was buried in (possibly) Old Feasterville Graveyard, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Peter married Lysbet Aerentsen about 1685 in Brooklyn, Kings NY. Lysbet died before 1745 and was buried in (possibly) Old Feasterville Graveyard, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Teunis Bergen and most subsequent genealogists have identified her as a daughter of Aert Middagh and Breekje Hansen Bergen, but this is disputed. In the article "Who was Lysbeth Aersen, Wife of Pieter Pietersen Staats?", Margery Freas states that Teunis Bergen erred when he identified Lysbeth Aer(t)sen as a child of Aert Middagh and Breekje Hansen Bergen (an identification that was repeated in subsequent genealogies). She points out that Lysbeth's name does not appear on any lists of Middagh family children and that neither Pieter Pietersen Staats, Lysbeth Aersen, nor their children participated in any recorded baptisms for Middagh family members.[2]
Pieter Jansen Staats was listed as forty years old in the Staten Island census taken approximately 1706 but probably over a span of several years. It is not known when he moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, sometime after 1714, but his will was filed there and it is the identification for his daughter Lucretia.
As of 12 December 1694 Pieter Pieterse Staats of the County of Richmond was paying rent to his parents, Pieter Janse Staats and Annetie, of Brooklyn, for use of land in Gowanus, Brooklyn (land lying the lands of Gerbrand Claasen and Cornelius Van Duyn0. [3]
