Biography

Lakey Alice Staley was born 17 July 1862 in Clinton, Kentucky and died 22 October 1928 in Walla Walla, Washington. She was buried on 24 October 1928 in the Milton-Freewater IOOF Cemetery in Milton-Freewater, Umatilla County, Oregon, USA.   She was the oldest child of Jesse Fielding Stailey (1814-1885) and Lucinda Lawson (1841-1908).

Lakey married about 1878 in Clinton County, Kentucky to William Randle Lawson (1855-1931).  He was the son of Jeremiah Lawson (1834-1898) and Nancy Ellen Barnes (1834-1855), and her first cousin.

Children of Lakey Alice Stailey and William Randle Lawson:

  1. Gertrude Belle Lawson (1880-1959). Married 1) James William Ross Howton (1873-1919) and secondly to William Henry Harder (1874-1946).
  2. William Ed Lawson (1882-1921).  No known marriage.
  3. Henry Leo Lawson (1886-1931).  Married Effie Wilson.
  4. Granville Porter Lawson (1887-1887). (twin)  Died young.
  5. Lulu Ethel Lawson (1887-1890). (twin) Died young.
  6. Hattie Luella Lawson (1889-1955). Married Samuel Harrison "Harry" Howton (1884-1956).  
  7. Cecil Ira Lawson (1892-1974).  Married Ruth Williams.
  8. Florence May Lawson (1894-1919). (twin) Married Alvin Ray Gentry (1886-1984).
  9. Laurence Ray Lawson (1894-1939).  (twin) Married Gladys Hullick.
  10. Ona Lester Lawson (1896-1968).  (twin) Married Frank Arthur Allen (b. c. 1883.)
  11. Nona Lester Lawson (1896-1897). (twin) Died young.
  12. Jessie Laura Lawson (1899-1972).  Married Adelbert Hopson (1896-1951).
  13. Charles L. Lawson (1902-1963).  Married Frances Anderson.

She became a property owner in Pilot Rock, Umatilla, Oregon, 1914.
