Zachariah was born in 1698. He was the son of Ebenezer Standish and Hannah Sturtevant.
Just before his marriage, his father, Ebenezer Standish of Plympton, husbandman, sold to his son Zachariah Standish of Plympton, husbandman, his homestead in Plympton on 11 Oct 1720. Ebenezer reserved the right for himself and his wife Hannah to live there during their lifetimes.[1]
Zachariah Standish married Abigail Whitman, Oct. 13, 1720 in Plympton, Massachusetts.[2]
In 1753, a black man named Bristol (who was a "servant for life" for Zachariah Standish) appeared at the General Session of the Peace accused of "entering with force & armes in the night time the dwelling house of James Wallace of said Plmpton where he then dwelt with his family, and attempted to debauch the said Sarah and go to bed with her and thereby greatly affrighted her and put her into great fear of her life." The court verdict was guilty and was to be whipped.[3]
He passed away 30 Mar 1770 in Plympton. [4]
He is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Plympton.[5]
23 April 1770, Abigail the widow, and Zachariah Standish, requested the court appoint Josiah Sturdevant as administrator of the estate. This was done on 2 May 1770.[6]
His inventory was taken on 8 May 1770 in Plympton.[7]
In 1772, an account of his estate by Josiah Sturtevant was recorded which included necessaries to the widow, legacy paid, and administration fees.[8]
The probate file contains nothing else until 1807. A tract of land in the cedar swamp was overlooked and was at that time divided (six shares) between the heirs of Sarah Cushman, heirs of Abigail Wright, heirs of Ebenezer Standish (two shares), heirs of Hannah Cushman, and the heirs of Zachariah Standish. All said children of Zachariah being then deceased.[9]
