Silvia Stanley was born August 8, 1927 in Rose Bridge, Gaspe where her family descendents of John Rose and Mary Rose . Silvia talks about getting up four hours before school to plant potatoes and work the garden. At 16 years old she moved to Montreal to live with her sister and brother in law Lulu and Nelson Guignon. She talks about her and her brother Leonard Stanley would mark the sidewalk with chalk so they wouldn't get lost. She also told me about her and my Aunt Lorna Stanley working in the Royal Victoria Doctor's Dining Room and about working in a clothing factory during the war. She could buy "seconds" for skirts at a very good discount. She also worked at a private men's club as a waitress. We were taught how to set a table and how to eat with manners because of her experience at that place. In the later years she worked at Murrays Restaurant near Stanley Street in the Sheraton Hotel. Her sister Vera Stanley worked at a different Murrays Restaurant on St. Catherine's street. Silvia told stories of people mistook Vera for her and they wondered why they wouldn't talk to her. Silvia passed away December 8, 1998. She suffered from diabetes and a bad heart.
