Thorning Carlton Stanley was born in Matagorda County, Texas on December 29, 1918. The original certificate of birth listed the "Name of Child" as "Carlton Thorning Stanley," but an amendment filed in 1972 corrects the order of his first and middle name from "Carlton Thorning" to "Thorning Carlton". Most people just called him T.C. Stanley.[1][2]
T.C. passed away on December 10, 2001. He is buried in Jones Creek, Texas alongside his wife Geraldine Mae Steadman at historic Gulf Prairie Cemetery, the original resting place of Stephen F. Austin.[3][4]
T.C. Stanley served in the U.S. Navy 1942-45 in the Seabee Military Construction division. He was a Navy diver and welder stationed in Alaska, Hawaii, and Japan. A member of the 45th battalion, he assisted with the construction of military bases.[5]
