John Stanton, the first child of Joseph Stanton and Hannah Chesebrough, was born on 25 July 1767 at Groton, Connecticut.^[1][2]

He married Polly Palmer, daughter of Nehemiah Palmer Jr. and Mary (Chesebrough) Palmer,^[2]
