Mary Starr was born 1672, in New London, Connecticut, a daughter of Comfort Starr and Marah (Weld) Starr. [1] This birth record states birth as 1669 in Boston with parents of Comfort and Mary. [2] Another birth record from Boston gives birth year as 1671. [3]
In January 1693, Mary married Joseph Ranney[4], son of Thomas, born 1663, in Middleton Upper Houses. [1]
Mary and Joseph were admitted to full communion in the "original church" on September 15, 1695. [1]
They were charter members of the North Society Church, organized January 5, 1714-15. [1]
Their home stood where Deacon John Stevens built. [1]
In 1740, Joseph deeded various properties to his children. [1]
Mary died October 1747. [1] Headstone etching. [7]
Mary was buried in the Old Burying Ground, in Cromwell, Middlesex county, Connecticut. She has a well preserved old style sandstone headstone [7] Mary's Find A Grave memorial gives her place of birth as Boston, however the biographer of the Ranney family gives her birthplace as New London.
Researcher's Notes
Before 1752 the year began on Lady Day, March 25th,. Dates between January 1st and March 24th were at the end of the year. Old Style (O.S.) and New Style (N.S.) are used to indicate whether the year has been adjusted. Often both dates are used.
