Biography

Mary was Cherokee.

Mary Jane “Polly” Starr, a Cherokee, was the daughter of Nancy Harlan, (a Cherokee b circa 1779, Cherokee Nation East) and Caleb Starr, (a white man, b. circa 1763. Chester County, Pennsylvania), and the great-granddaughter of Nan-ye-hi (Nancy Ward).[1] She was born 15 September 1795, Cherokee Nation East (now McMinn County, Tennessee). [2]

Polly Starr married Austin Rider, a white man, about 1809, and their first child was born in 1810. Polly and Austin had twelve children, Nancy, Thomas, John, Caleb, Elizabeth, Ezekiel, Bluford, William, Mary, Ellis, Charles, and Laura . [3]

The family were ‘Old Settlers’ removing to Indian Territory in 1831-32. [4] Polly's last child, Laura Rider, was born on 3 March 1832, during the journey to Indian Territory. [5]

Polly married James Wood after the death of Austin Rider. They did not have any children.[6] Polly died in Indian Territory in 1869. [7]

The unnamed, listed descendant as spouse of Amelia (Alberty) Rider displays an unsourced birth date which should not conflict with the needed merge of this profile.

This "Unknown" profile should read Thomas Lewis rider born 1814 died 1863.

Starr-1886 and Starr-1544 do not represent the same person because: The birth date of one is impossible with the descendants of the other.
Starr-1886 and Starr-1544 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same spouse; dates approx. only - spouse needs merge too
