Tristrim (per his grave marker; variously spelled Tristam, Trusturn, Tristram), Stedman was born in 1781, in or near Tyringham (Berkshire County), Massachusetts. His parents were Penolepe (Hazard) and Trustam Stedman (1751-1841).
Tristrim did not migrate with his birth family to New York State when they moved in the late 1700s, thus remained in his home area near Tyringham.
Tristrim married Huldah Herrick probably about 1804, in Tyringham. They had at least seven children:
Lorenzo Herrick Stedman (1806 - 1883); baptized 10 Feb 1806 [1]; married 1) Caroline E. Linsted; 2) Susan
